Shipping Assistant - Level 1

JOB SUMMARY:

The employee in this role is responsible for efficient distribution of inbound and outbound shipments by assembling, processing, and managing shipments, creating labels, and ensuring the proper loading and unloading of trucks. Employees are expected to undertake day-to-day warehouse activities, including the maintenance of equipment, cleanliness of company grounds, and the assembly of show sample packages. Other duties include assisting with inventory counts, physical inventory, and cycle counts, and assisting other departments, particularly during peak periods and off-seasons.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The responsibilities listed below are representative of what is required for the job:

  • Processes incoming and outgoing shipments under the guidance of the Assistant & Warehouse Manager
  • Inspects all incoming and outgoing items for accuracy and signs of damage.
  • Manages the processing of small parcel shipments, while scanning orders and logging all relevant data for outgoing shipments.
  • Generates labels for pallets, cartons, and products.
  • Loads and unloads trucks, relocates materials within the warehouse.
  • Maintains forklifts, shipping equipment, and facility, ensuring upkeep & cleanliness.
  • Wraps skids for finished goods, removes trash and scrap as necessary.
  • Participates in inventory counts, physical inventory, and cycle counts.
  • Supports and documents repack and warehousing efforts.
  • Adheres to safety procedures, exercising sound judgment in all responsibilities.
  • Assist with stocking the sample room by organizing, cleaning, and cataloging items as needed.
  • Aids the Marketing and Sales Department in assembling show sample packages.
  • Provides support to the Production and EBX dept. during peak periods and assists other areas, particularly in the off-season.

While performing the duties of this job, physical requirements which place moderate demand on the employee are a cycle of cooridinated body movements in rapid speed. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and climb; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception. The employee is occasionally required to talk or hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee may be exposed to airborne particles, heat, fumes, vibrations, and noise.

EDUCATION

The position requires a high school level of education (or equivalent). Must have ability to use basic shop mathematics, use a wide variety of tools or precision measuring instruments, and understand the basic operations of a computer.

EXPERIENCE

General labor experience is preferred but not required. Job training will be provided.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR ACCURACY

Mistakes during order picking result in both time and financial losses for Novelty and our customers, potentially impacting our reputation negatively. While some errors are inevitable, our aim is to minimize them. Accuracy is our top priority when picking and packing orders.

WORKING WITH OTHERS

The employee will work both independently and with groups of employees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & DEXTERITY

Executes routine tasks at a moderate pace to achieve quantity and accuracy objectives. Utilizes a computer or keypad device in the process. Physical demands include moderate exertion on the fingers, arms, torso, legs, and feet, with a moderate amount of standing, climbing, and walking, and a notable emphasis on lifting or moving weights of 50 lbs. or less (Assistance provided for weights exceeding 50 lbs.).

MENTAL DEMANDS

Requires ongoing concentration, often manages multiple tasks concurrently, and occasionally must make swift decisions. Faces occasional challenges involving a variety of problems and distractions that may disrupt planned work. Demonstrates the ability to promptly resume work after encountering distractions; all under the help and guidance of the warehouse manager and assistant manager.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Tasks are assigned daily or weekly. The role necessitates self-motivation and the capability to work independently without direct supervision. Both the warehouse and assistant manager are available to aid with questions and/or concerns.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS

Regularly interacts with departmental employees. Frequently engages with employees from other departments. Welcomes and aids drivers during freight pickups or deliveries. Assists customers picking up their orders.

OPERATION OF MACHINES & EQUIPMENT

Required to possess fundamental computer skills and competence in operating a pallet wrapper and bundle strapper. Proficiency in forklift operation is preferred but not required. If not proficient in the mentioned skills, a willingness to learn is essential.

HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS

There is a slight possibility of experiencing minor cuts, abrasions, or bruises. The risk of exposure to hazardous materials, broken bones, and more severe injuries is low.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Periodic exposure to dust, dirt, heat, cold, and noise during the season. Infrequent exposure to fumes, odor, and vibration.

JOB TYPE: Full-time, hourly

SCHEDULE: 8 hour shift (Monday - Friday) with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch period.;

PAY: $18/hour

Customer Service Representative - Level 1

JOB SUMMARY:

The Customer Service Representative is responsible for supporting our business to consumer channel by problem solving and effective communication. Requires the ability to gain and use product and service knowledge to address new or existing issues. Must provide technical troubleshooting support, via phone and email, and provide proper resolutions to benefit both the company and customers. In some cases, it will be required to make product sales recommendations based on the consumers’ wants and needs. Includes duties such as data entry, order processing, consumer care, and routine office procedures.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Order entry. Receives and processes orders via phone, mail, and email. Verifies prices, discounts, and item numbers. Clarifies any discrepancies with customers or sales team.
  • Order Management. Validates orders to ensure they are accurately being received from our platforms into our company ERP and that orders are being shipped out in a timely fashion.
  • Performs customer service duties. Maintains and updates files. Receives incoming customer complaints and resolves product, quality, and shipping issues according to procedures.
  • Promotes and recommends products to customers. Must have the ability to sell yourself, the company, and company’s products.
  • Satisfies customer requests for pricing, catalogs, samples, shipping quotes, returns, refunds, etc.
  • Provides technical support. Gains knowledge of products and services to troubleshoot issues and provide customers with the best experience.
  • Maintains a high level of interest in Lawn & Garden industry and stays in the know with related gardening topics.
  • Effectively communicates with other departments regarding products and sales.
  • At times, administers our blog, email, and forum network.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

High School Diploma required; associate degree preferred.  Must have strong telephone skills and excellent customer service skills. Master gardener certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Requires one to two years of general administrative office and/or customer service experience.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR ACCURACY

Errors would be discovered by the employee, the supervisor, other employees, or customers and their effect would be negligible to moderate if not corrected.  Errors would be corrected by the employee or the supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS/CONFIDENTIALITY

Responsibility for direct access to confidential financial data, which would cause damage to the company if released.  Requires limited access to company funds.

OPERATION OF OFFICE MACHINES

Must be proficient in operation of personal computer and all related office machines.

COMPLEXITY/JUDGMENT

Requires an average amount of routine and repetition.  Independent judgment is used occasionally, and the impact of errors would have a negligible to moderate effect on the Company.  Work is organized and laid out according to set procedures and priorities set by the Supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & DEXTERITY

Operates personal computer and telephone 90% of the day.  Performs other office duties 10% of the day as well as filing 5%. Physical demands include using vision, sitting for long periods of time, and lifting or moving weight of 25 pounds or less.  Eye/hand and finger coordination to support keyboarding skills are essential.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Virtually all work is done with limited supervision and considerable low-level decision-making responsibility.

MENTAL DEMANDS

Continually needs to concentrate and deal with distractions that interfere.  Frequently needs to make quick decisions, deal with a diversity of customer problems and perform multiple tasks. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Machine Operator, Blow Molding (Evening Shift)

DESCRIPTION:

Novelty Manufacturing Co. is a leading manufacturer of plastic lawn and garden products—producing watering cans, planters, and mosquito traps for the consumer market. As a blow-molding machine operator, you will produce watering cans and other parts for third-party clients. Workers hired into this position will be trained to operate multiple blow-molding machines as well as injection molding machines; and will learn processes related to manufacturing plastic products.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The responsibilities listed below are representative of what is required for the job:

  • Produces quality parts in a timely manner.
  • Ensures safety guards are activated before using machines/equipment.
  • Works independently or as part of a team.
  • Trims flash and/or torches parts as required.
  • Performs daily maintenance on machines and molds. Clear equipment jams.
  • Sets-up all necessary supplies and materials for each molding line and stocks equipment properly.
  • Monitors equipment operation to detect any malfunctions. Notify setup person and/or supervisor of equipment adjustment or repair needs.
  • Understands product quality criteria, inspects and applies proper judgement for accept/reject decisions.
  • Fills out Daily Production Reports.
  • Labels parts and cartons. Packs products in cartons and on skids.
  • Cleans production equipment.
  • Keeps working area neat, organized, and clean.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and performs as a team member.
  • Follows all safety procedures and uses good judgment in the execution of duties and responsibilities.
  • Adheres to guidelines related to PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Understands basic mathematical principles and measurement processes such as length, diameter, weight, and counts.
  • Assumes duties of other operators as required and assists in other areas of the facility as needed.
  • Performs other duties and assignments as needed and directed by management.
